Wall text 'Dolce far niente'

  • Corten steel

The literal translation of the Italian expression ‘Dolce far niente’ is ‘The sweet art of doing nothing’. The deeper meaning of the phrase lies in the Italian way of life. Italians regard ‘doing nothing’ as an important activity – something that is extremely important alongside other activities such as working, doing household chores and visiting friends and family. ‘Doing nothing’ is an important aspect of life that should not be overlooked, as it contributes to peace of mind and happiness.

To hang the wall text indoors: Position the text and use a spirit level to check that it is hanging straight. Secure the wall text with nails. This can be done in any closed letter shape. Use steel or brass nails. These match the colour of Corten steel best.

To hang the wall text outdoors: Position the text and use a spirit level to check that it is hanging straight. Mark where you want the fixing points and drill holes in the wall at those points. Insert wall plugs. Screw stainless steel screws or screw-in wall plugs into the plugs. Do not screw the screws or screw-in wall plugs all the way into the wall, leaving a little space to bring the text slightly ‘forward’. A few millimetres is sufficient. This prevents the corten steel from coming into contact with the wall and avoids rust stains on the wall. If the surface allows it, you can also use stainless steel nails outdoors. Do not hammer them all the way into the wall, so that a small gap remains between the wall text and the wall.
